Photo Booth

I am currently working on a project titled ‘Photo Booth’. This started from collecting rejected passport images from the UK passport office. I started to research into ‘biometrics’ and the data in which government legislation warrants how you must sit for your passport photograph and what information can be held within.

I am interested in how the sitter acts in front of the camera showing how they perform and act whilst their image is being taken. The camera flashes intermittently giving the sitter four photographs but not necessarily to UK passport legislation, thus showing the personality of the sitter. I am questioning to what extent does the passport photograph show a true meaning of the person? Participants have been from Sheffield Hallam University, Psalter Lane and City Campus, Severn Trent Water, Nottingham and Wimbledon College of Art, London (so far).
