David Thomas Crawley
Biography

Biography

I am currently studying part time for a MA Contemporary Fine Art: Curating at Sheffield Hallam University. I completed my BA (Hons) Fine Art degree at SHU in 2001 and upon returning to Liverpool attained my PGCE Secondary Art and Design at LJMU in 2003.

I am currently living in Nottingham with my partner where I am working as a freelance artist and towards future MA exhibitions.

I worked as a Secondary Art and Design teacher for many years and always cultivated ideas with the students I taught. My interest in photography and new media continues to grow and I feel that the MA has helped me in revisiting and rediscovering my own creative practice. I love to meet new people and see this as the basis for all my work, whether this be as a performative piece such as my video work or as a way of initiating a conversation between strangers. I believe that the photographer and the sitter have to feel at ease with one another in order for there to be a visual response. I have developed this understanding through club photography and working with many bands.

I have been commissioned by Liverpool Biennial to work on projects with students and community groups.
These projects have been 'Lighten Up, STAR*, gossip and at a glance’.

Permanent paintings are held at Holly Lodge Girls College and West Derby School, Liverpool and photographs purchased by Liverpool Housing Action Trust.
